2023-24 Bantam Junior

Curling, like golf, is a sport that can be played for a life-time.  As a sport, it requires balance, coordination and flexibility.  It is also good exercise.  Curling is a game requiring strategy; comparing shot options and planning shots that will achieve the team's goal; it is like "chess on ice".  Curling is a great way to meet new friends.

Brant Curling offers youth curling on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  The bantam-junior program is an introductory program for youth from the ages of 12 to 18 (grades 7 to 12).  The program is non-competitive and its main objective is to develop the curlers enjoyment of the game while improving their curling skills.  The first three weeks of the program are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of curling to new curlers, teaching them how to throw, how to sweep, and how to play the game.  The majority of the weeks will involve a 30 minute skill development activity followed by 1.5 hours of game play.  The season concludes with a pizza party.

For those youth that wish to curl, but are aged 12 and under, Brant Curling also offers a Little Rockers program for ages 7 to 12 (grades 2 to 6).  Little rockers take to the ice on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30.

2023-24 Assumption of Risk Form

Curling is a non-contact sport, and although it is compared to golf and chess, curling is risky because it is played on ice.  There is a risk of injury due to falling.  Although no one plans on falling; it does happen.  For example, curlers may fall if they lose their balance, if they trip over a rock or if a stray rock escapes from another sheet.  Every effort is made to instruct the curlers in proper technique and etiquette to minimize accidents; but, accidents do happen.

The Assumption of Risk form is intended to make the curler and their parents aware of the risks associated with curling.  The Assumption of Risk form can be found on the attached pdf.  Please read, initial, sign and submit before the curlers take to the ice.

It is highly recommended that a parent/guardian attend every Sunday during the curling season, just in case their curler suffers an injury.

2023-24 Rowan's Law and Helmets

Rowan's Law requires all athlete's under 26 years of age to review the concussion awareness materials annually.

Guardians of athlete's under the age of 18 are also required to review the concussion awareness materials annually.

Materials for review are available through this link https://www.ontario.ca/page/rowans-law-concussion-awareness-resources

Once the athlete and guardians have reviewed the material, the Rowan's Law Concussion Awareness form is to be completed and submitted.

It is hoped that all youth curlers will wear a helmet.  No one plans to fall and hit their head; but, it does happen.

We don't plan on getting in a car accident, but we all wear seat belts just in case, and youth curlers should wear helmets just in case.

If guardians wish to opt out of having their curler wear a helmet, the helmet waiver section of Rowan's Law is to be signed.
